GTA x McDonald's
When Apple announced the launch of iAds, it opened up a whole new area of possibilities. We explored with the idea of an ad within an app and came up with the concept 'GTA x McDonald's' to demonstrate possiblilities.
The concept explores:
1) In-app brand presence. Advertisers can now pair up with app developers to incorporate their brand presence into the app, be it having a virtual representation of their products or mimicking traditional advertising within the virtual world. In Grand Theft Auto it can range from having virtual billboards to virtual TVCs.
2) Specific promotions and products targeted only to the app users. By using Apple's unique audience interest and preference data, the ad is delivered to consumers most likely to be motivated by the message. Again an example in GTA could be launching new burgers and getting unexpected game players to try them first before launch, or having exclusive products just for GTA game players, generating hype and publicity.
3) M-commerce implementation. With the credit card information and mobile owner's information from both Apple and the mobile service provider, users would not only be able to purchase items straight from the app, but also getting them delivered to their current location using Google maps. In our example, a verification call can be made from McDonald's delivery from the information gathered. With iOS4 multitasking abilities, users can now receive confirmation calls while in the midst of a game.
4) Connecting physical products with virtual world to create unique brand experiences. As we spend more time on apps, the ability to interact with the real world within apps is increasingly important. Giving users the power to do so will be an essential requirement for app developers in the near future.
